Model portraits are fun and they allow me to take my mind off of the seriousness of the branding and marketing thought process that goes into commercial photography. Working with quality models who help produce portrait ideas, makes the collaboration that much better. When Maleri sent me the inspo for this shoot, I instantly loved it and knew it was going to go in the books as a personal favorite. I chose to color grade it with a nice moody tone that would allow the red to POP, without taking away from the model.
You'll be seeing a lot more of Maleri this year!
Portrait photography for music artist is another one of my favorite types of photography. Artist are always so open to my creative and outside the box concepts because they need that eye catching imagery in order to stand out. Portraits can be used for a variety of things, from album artwork to actual promotion of the artist’s new projects. I also LOVE to travel, so being a traveling photographer allows me the freedom to always be on the go!
Sexy, unique & EDGY, is how I’d describe Dannie. The short hair, freckles, model-like stature, ability to Give Face and great at unique poses, makes her such a pleasant model to shoot with. I know fire is going to be made when we work together every time! Having edgy portraits can really help anyone’s portfolio and if you’re a portrait photographer or even a commercial photographer, I’d DEFINITELY suggest booking Dannie!!
Brooklyn Sport (Commercial Photography)
I enjoyed creating this commercial set so much. It was for Brooklyn Sport, a swimwear brand based out of New York. This shoot allowed me to use my business skills and marketing knowledge to ensure that I maximize the brand’s reach. When you have a product, service or brand it’s very important to create content that caters specifically to your target demographic. Coming from a business and marketing background, I am able to sit down with clients, assess their brand and target demographic and in turn maximizing the project’s reach. Which all leads to generating more brand awareness and revenue growth. Learning some things about marketing and branding is something I’d suggest to all commercial photographers.
The Girl In The Orange Pants
This shoot was a challenge to myself, to style an entire shoot, from clothes to props to final edit. I personally HATE shopping, lol, but shopping for this shoot was very fun and aggravating at the same time. Having to stick to one color scheme made it more difficult than just going into the thrift store and picking out pieces that went good together. Finding orange, vintage style pants was a feat, but once that nightmare was over, the makeup artist, Vicky, came and put the finishing touches on the Face to make the shoot even better! All I had to tell her was the color scheme and that I wanted something different, outside the normal, but not toooooooo much, lol and she did her thing. Then to REALLY put the icing on the cake, I selected Dee, as my model. When I came across her profile on Instagram and saw how unique her look was, I knew she was going to make the images POP!!
As a commercial photographer being able to give advice on wardrobe can make for an even better ad campaign.
As a family photographer as well, working with kids has to be a strong skill. Dorien just makes my job even easier. This is Dorien Maxwell, a professional kid model who has been featured in magazines and commercial shoots for kid brands. His parents understood the concept of having DOPE content in order to stand out, so we didn’t do the typical kid photoshoots, we did photoshoots in alleys and rooftops.
India To Cincinnati
Believe it or not, this was created in Cincinnati Ohio under a train overpass. I collaborated with Henna artist (Studio Maya), makeup artist Saadia and models Veneicia, Smirithi, and Simran. When I seen this underpass I knew that I wanted to create a scene that looked like a foreign location, Egypt or India somewhere. So I organized everyone and told them the look that I wanted and everyone contributed to this creative outcome.
Styles By Eunika Showroom (Commercial Shoot)
As her personal commercial photographer it’s always a pleasure working with boutique owner and wardrobe stylist Eunika Hisle. She takes a lot of the workload off of my back. When Eunika books with me she always has the theme, look, treatment, and in most cases the location already in order. When it comes to her boutique, Styles By Eunika Showroom, she spares no expense when it comes to marketing and branding. She understands that content is KING and makes every effort to create new themes, storylines and looks every time. Here are some looks from a few of our projects over the years.
Hobby Lobby Challenge
The shoot that sparked a viral challenge and took my career to a new level. Over 250K shares in less than 24hrs after posting to my Facebook page, it took social media by storm. There were multiple news outlets and social media blogs reaching out to me for features and interviews. The idea behind the shoot was to do a photoshoot inside the craft store using the fake flowers and make it look like the models were really outside in a flower garden at sunset. I was just doing what I love and trying to be creative.
If you’re a singer, actor/actress, rap artist, etc. you NEED content. Photoshoots serve the same purpose to artist/talent as it does to models, gets you attention! Jubilee understands that and booked me for a photoshoot tour in California. Yes we actual did a tour just for content. From LA to San Francisco, with a couple of stops in between, we created so much video and photo content. The content is for her to distribute across her social media accounts, for album artwork, use for promotion material and to even sell as posters to her fans.
From the looks of these images you wouldn’t be able to tell that these were some of Maleri’s first professional photoshoots. I pride myself in my ability to make ANYONE at any level of experience be comfortable and confident in front of my camera. Those two things are very important when it comes to having a successful photoshoot. As a portrait photographer, it’s a great feeling to “break” a new model into the industry and watch them flourish.
Give Me Face Experience
The Give Me Face Experience is a power photoshoot where clients fly in from all over the country to be photographed by me. I also invite other photographers from all over the country to come as well, in order to give the client more diverse images. This also allows everyone to network with each other and grow their following.
This was a location that I stumbled across while going for a walk. I seen an old chair under an overpass and my creative gear started turning. I envisioned a model in a high fashion outfit. So I pulled my team together, Eunika ( wardrobe stylist) and Saadia (mua), and told them what my plans were and landing model Savannah, really enhanced the overall look that I was going for.
Having a team to execute dope photoshoots can take an image from ordinary to extraordinary. With everyone having a role and executing, it makes for the greatest outcome.
Lady In The Red Dress (Tether Magazine)
Melanin mixed with style, class and a grungy setting always makes for an amazing photo. Aissatou, is one of my favorite models to photograph when I’m in Cincinnati. Her flexible style and adaptability makes her the ideal model for any outside the box concepts. Working alongside wardrobe stylist, Eunika Hisle, for this Tether Magazine submission made my job easy. Eunika is very talented and is always on top of her styling game.
Thrift Store Challenge
Sometimes I challenge myself in order to grow as a commercial photographer. The challenge; Put together an entire outfit, from head to toe with a budget of $30. This was my first attempt at being a wardrobe stylist as well as the photographer. Maleri and I went into Goodwill (thrift store), I put this look together and we actually did the photoshoot right in front of the store. Check out the video and you’ll see how it all came together.
I love showcasing my creative side it gives viewers a glimpse inside how my mind operates. This is a collection of a few pieces that I’ve created, from headshots for makeup artist to movie sets, I love creating!
Floyd & Co (Commercial Shoot)
What does your images say about your brand/product/service? Does it represent your demographic? Can your demographic relate to it? Does it resonate with your potential customers? More importantly, does it capture their attention? This brand’s audience is all about muscle cars, motorcycles and tattoos, not tea and crumpets. Working with male model Jason Lewis was a perfect fit to represent this brand’s image.
